Every family deserves a guide through the transition to adulthood
When a disabled child turns eighteen, the system changes overnight. The individualized support they had in K-12 disappears. College offers a fraction of the help. Benefits programs speak a language nobody taught you. And the paperwork never stops.
Transcenders exists because no family should have to figure all of that out alone.
We are building the mama bear toolbox: a one-stop advocate and resource hub for young people transitioning from high school to adulthood, and for the families walking beside them. Plain-language guides. Help with the forms. A timeline that tells you what to do and when. Connections to the regional centers, the Department of Rehabilitation, schools, and the VA. And new AI tools designed to make the whole process something a family can actually manage, instead of a full-time job.
Who we serve
Disabled young people ages fourteen to twenty-six who are moving from school into adult life, and their parents, grandparents, siblings, and caregivers. If you are the person filling out the forms at midnight, calling the offices that never call back, and trying to plan for a future after you are gone, this is for you.
The transition cliff
From kindergarten through twelfth grade, students with disabilities get individualized support by law. The day they start college, most of that vanishes. What is left is usually extra time on tests and note-taking. That gap is where young people stall out, and where families burn out. We work to close it: with resources, with advocacy, and with tools that treat every learning style as legitimate.
What we are doing right now
The veterans education campaign. Disabled children of veterans are locked out of VA Chapter 35 education benefits and California’s CalVet tuition waiver, simply because their college programs do not grant a standard degree. We are asking lawmakers and candidates to fix it. Read about the campaign
The toolbox. We are developing AI-assisted tools that help families draft IEP and 504 letters, organize DOR paperwork, and plan the transition years step by step. Our position is simple: AI support should become a standard accommodation, because it helps every learning style.
Family Code 3910 awareness. California law already provides for adult disabled child support, but most families have never heard of it. We are spreading the word.
